L is for Latin (and Learning)

I have no experience with Latin.  I understand that much of the English language is derived from Latin and Greek; I have just never studied it.  Then recently I found out that someone is offering to teach Latin to the elementary students at co-op next semester.  Elliott has been asking to learn Spanish and has learned a few basic things on his own, so that is going to be our Foreign Language of choice at home.  It's probably also the most practical for us.  However, I am glad that he will likely be exposed to another language!

Then I found this e-book called Vocabulary Bridges from English to Latin and Greek by Harvey Bluedorn.  It is normally $8, but I found it here as a temporary freebie, which is why I decided to give it a try.  I am in the middle of my my own coursework right now, but when I have a break between classes this summer, I will be tackling this workbook.  I thought it would be a good way for me to learn more about the English language, develop better vocabulary, and to have a little background as to what Elliott will be studying in co-op.  It's for ages 10-adult, so much too old for Elliott at this point, but it would make a great supplement to language arts/vocabulary when he is a little older, or if we decide to pursue Latin in the future.

For some reason, I think it will be fun, and I am excited.  It's interesting that by homeschooling my son I am more interested in learning new things for myself.  I wonder if I can get my husband to try it with me...?
